Michael Peterson
Producer
Michael Peterson is an award-winning producer, writer, director based in Calgary, Alberta and best known for his work in horror and comedy. His directing work includes commercials, documentaries, web series, half-hour tv and feature films. Of note are his 'sports' comedy, LLOYD THE CONQUEROR, horror/thriller, KNUCKLEBALL, and exorcist horror, SHADOW OF GOD. His TV work includes many hours of unscripted and the scripted series, Department of Paranormal Affairs, Tiny Plastic Men - Season 4, Caution May Contain Nuts, and the pilot for APTN series The Secret History of the Wild West.
Michael is also an experienced producer, a skill set that strengthens his directing, including over a dozen feature films including the Fantastic Fest Closing Night Film, BLOODTHIRSTY (2020), and HARPOON (2019), the latter of which premiered at Rotterdam International Film Festival and was rated one of the top horror films of the decade on Rotten Tomatoes (97%), and recent features, THIS TOO SHALL PASS, wrestling-horror DARK MATCH, NIGHT OF THE REAPER, CAMP (Exec. Producer, 2025 Next Wave Award for Best Feature at Fantastic Fest) and cosmic horror, absurdist comedy BUFFET INFINITY which won a Jury Prize and Audience Award at this year's Fantasia Film Festival. In 2022 he was nominated for the CMPA Indiescreen Established Producer Award.
His undergrad degree is from York University, has a M.Arts from UNC-Chapel Hill, and participated in the 2013 CFC Directors Lab. In his spare time he loves discovering new music, cooking, reading fantasy novels and spending time with his family and two dogs.
